The Salvation Army Band from the 2019 Rose Parade in Pasadena, CA. Please check the story on the band at the Pasadena Now website. This video clip is used with permission from Music213 channel on Youtube. Thank you Luis for a great video.
This is the story:
This Is My Story and The Salvation Army
On January 1st I sat down to watch the Rose Parade on TV with all of the awesome floats and bands. I like to see some of the work with flowers to make the floats and see how clever they have designed the displays and just what they can do with the parts of flowers that we think only look nice in a vase. As I watched the bands and floats go by, one band caught my attention. It was the Salvation Army Band. For a century, The Salvation Army gathered a group of musicians from all over the globe to march and play in the New Year Day’s parade in Pasadena. This year, in commemoration of its 100 years of performances, The Salvation Army Marching Band that made its way down Colorado Blvd early this week was comprised of Salvation Army musicians from every continent on earth. (Paraphrased from a Salvation Army article posted at Pasadena Now web site)
When the band was playing and marching, there was a familiar tune that I couldn’t recognize and I frantically tried to search for something that would tell me the name of the song. That never happened, but I do have a video of their march and maybe someday I’ll figure it out. But I also got sidetracked, which is normal for me, and found something else that amazed me. This I found when I was looking for the Salvation Army Band on Youtube. There was a video of a review of all the participating bands in the parade at a playing field which gave them some practice to show their stuff.
That’s when I saw the video posted here. IT WOULD BE A GOOD THING IF YOU WATCHED THE VIDEO NOW THEN CAME BACK TO THE REST OF MY NARRATIVE WHEN YOU FINISH.
While watching the video the Lord hit me with an impression like a ton of bricks. I believe He gave me this vision so that I could pass it on to you. Here’s what I saw. The band is the ARMY OF THE LORD. They were marching in unison toward a goal for all to see. They had a message as I realized from the music they were playing.. The song was “Blessed Assurance” or “This Is My Story” as some may know it. The lyrics go like this:
Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine
O what a foretaste of glory divine
Heir of salvation, purchase of God
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood
Perfect submission, all is at rest
I in my Savior am happy and blessed
Watching and waiting, looking above
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love
This is my story, this is my song
Praising my Savior all the day long
This is my story, this is my song
Praising my Savior all the day long
Here’s the crux of the scene as I saw it. We are the Army of the Lord, all from every continent on this earth. What if we all marched together in unison and had a story to tell? Well, we do have a story and it is the gospel which we are called to spread. Are you willing to march into the front for all to see? What is your story and are you going to tell it? I plan on making a greater effort to do that in my life from now to the end until I have no strength left. It’s about time we marched against the enemy and made a stand.
