One of the best things that illustrate the tremendous potential of the tongue is the rudder in a ship.

The rudder is visually just a small part of the ship that is down below the surface. You do not see it when you look at the ship sailing on the surface of the water. However, that small part, which is not typically visible, decides the direction of the ship. When the rudder is used rightly, the ship will make it safely to its destined haven. However if the rudder is abused, most assuredly, the ship will suffer loss. The rudder decides the course and the destiny of the whole vessel.
